Gel battery products

A Gel battery (also known as a "gel cell") is a VRLA battery with a gelified electrolyte; the sulfuric acid is mixed with silica fume, which makes the resulting mass gel-like and immobile. Unlike a flooded wet-cell lead-acid battery, these batteries do not need to be kept upright. Gel batteries reduce the electrolyte evaporation, spillage (and subsequent corrosion issues) common to the wet-cell battery, and boast greater resistance to extreme temperatures, shock and vibration.

What is a Gel battery?

A Gel battery design is typically a modification of the standard lead-acid automotive or marine battery. A gelling agent is added to the electrolyte to reduce movement inside the battery case. Many gel batteries also use one-way valves in place of open vents, which help the normal internal gasses to recombine back into water in the battery, reducing gassing. Generally, gel batteries are less tolerant of high heat and are charged at lower power than traditional or AGM batteries.

Powerful pbq Gel batteries

The pbq gamma has been extended with three types of GEL batteries, namely the following models: pbq Gel 33-12, pbq Gel 40-12 and pbq Gel 60-12; 12V batteries with capacities of respectively 33, 40 and 60Ah. The pbq gel batteries are VRLA batteries with a gelled electrolyte; the sulphuric acid is mixed with silica fume, which makes the resulting mass gel-like and immobile. This process decreases significantly the evaporation of hydrogen and the gelled electrolyte will also not stratify, which makes equalization charging redundant.

Gel battery for deep cycle application

Gel batteries are best used in VERY DEEP cycle applications like wheelchairs, golf trolleys and solar installations and may last a bit longer under hot weather circumstances. The recharge voltage on this type of battery is lower than other traditional lead-acid batteries.
